The LEDIEL Ph.D. training program is structured to ensure that every Ph.D. student receives a comprehensive and solid education, beginning with a common methodological foundation for all and continuing with seminars and in-depth disciplinary studies. The program is designed to address the diverse needs and backgrounds of the participants, providing them with the tools necessary to conduct rigorous and innovative research.
Introductory Course: Fundamentals of Research Methodology
The initial training focuses on fundamental aspects of research methodology, with an emphasis on data collection techniques, research design, and analysis. This approach aims to standardize the foundational knowledge of doctoral students and ensure that all acquire the necessary tools to conduct high-quality research. The main seminars include:
- Fundamentals of Scientific Research: Types of research (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods), action research, and training.
- Research Design: Formulating hypotheses, defining objectives, selecting a research design.
- Data Collection Methods: Data collection tools (questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, etc.), validity and reliability of tools.
- Sampling: Sampling techniques and implications for research.
- Data Analysis: Techniques for analyzing quantitative data (descriptive and inferential statistics) and qualitative data (coding, thematic analysis).
- Research Ethics: Ethical principles, informed consent, data protection.
- Research Management: Planning, time management, and collaboration within the research team.
- Publication and Dissemination of Results: Scientific writing, literature review, and presentation of results.
- Use of Software and Technological Tools: Software for statistical analysis (SPSS, R, Stata), qualitative analysis (NVivo, Atlas.ti), and citation management (EndNote, Zotero).
Specialized training: subject-specific seminars
Once the methodological foundations have been established, the program includes a series of disciplinary seminars focused on advanced topics related to the PhD program’s research areas. These seminars will address specific topics such as:
- Artificial Intelligence applied to educational and training contexts.
- Academic leadership and faculty development.
- Specific disciplinary topics aligned with the research areas of the LEDIEL PhD program.
Format of the courses
The program includes lectures, technical-practical seminars, and workshops. These activities will be held in-person, online, or in a hybrid format to ensure flexibility and accessibility for all doctoral students. Over the course of the three-year program, doctoral students must earn and document a minimum of 18 credits through educational events held either within or outside the program.
Lectures are conducted by members of the College and invited stakeholders.
Procedures for Reporting Training Events
Notifications regarding events (seminars, conferences, meetings) included in the LEDIEL Ph.D. program’s academic calendar will be sent by the Coordinator via email, specifying the date, time, location, and delivery method (in-person in a classroom or via an online platform for remote sessions).
The academic calendar is subject to change during the academic year: additional seminars, conferences, or training events may be proposed as the program progresses to enrich the doctoral curriculum. Others may undergo changes in dates or times based on faculty needs. The Coordinator will be responsible for promptly communicating any changes to the academic calendar to the doctoral students.
Course Materials
Doctoral students have private access to a Google Drive folder organized by academic year and by educational event, where they can view and study the course materials provided by instructors during lectures and seminars, as well as recordings of classes delivered in a blended or fully online format.
Certificate of Participation and Recognized Credits
Participation in events scheduled in the LEDIEL doctoral academic calendar is certified by certificates of attendance sent via email by the Coordinator. Some seminars/events also offer credit recognition, which will be clearly indicated on the certificate.
According to the LEDIEL Doctoral Program regulations, the credits to be awarded for an event depend on its duration, as illustrated below. For the same seminar organized over multiple days (e.g., seminar series), the hours from all days must be added together to calculate the credits.
