Period Abroad and Research Budget

Period Abroad

During periods spent abroad, the amount of the scholarship is increased by 50%. This increase is calculated on the basis of the actual days spent outside Italy. It is the responsibility of the university’s PhD Office to arrange the payment of this supplement on the basis of the certificates confirming the start and end of the stay, provided by the doctoral student and countersigned by the host supervisor.

Research Budget

Each doctoral student, whether funded or unfunded, is guaranteed a research budget of no less than 10% of the scholarship amount (€1,624.30). This budget is guaranteed for each year of the programme and may be carried over if unused, allowing any remaining balance to be transferred to subsequent years. It is intended to cover research and training expenses, such as travel for research purposes, conference participation, and specific software licences, subject to prior approval by the supervisor/coordinator. In general, the purchase of inventoriable goods (e.g. laptops or costly hardware) is not permitted, except in duly justified cases.
